Then we made it back to Bridekirk in time to see John's wedding party on their way out of the church and meet up with Helen and Charlotte. A busy day so far!

Here are some highlights:

Anya's Japanese Haiku

Two weeks from now we'll be in Kobe for the next stage of our adventure. Visas done, shipping sent, fingers crossed. Anya has been given some great Japan books, and last week learned this haiku by Matsuo Basho about a frog jumping into an ancient pond and going 'splash!':

On a nerdy note, the iPod does pretty well at eliminating the background noise of being on a busy train.

Sunday Sam Snap Week 19

More fun in the Tippitoes. He was funny when I got back from the summer school at the weekend - he gave me a kind of "there you are Daddy," look. One week away and he's rolling over, keeping his head up all the time and eating all sorts.

Sunday Sam Snap Week 18 - Baldy Man!

Hehe... he's losing his hair from the front backwards, though it is already coming back.

We're in different places this week, which is not a lot of fun. Hesty and the kids are with Desy in Chessington while I'm here at the MA Summer School in Bath. So far so good, working on a unit about Assessment. Lovely campus, really nice people in the group. Very social! Last night a reception was held for us, which turned into a particularly late night.

Tonight - to the library! Got to get reading and resources for a 5,000 word assignment. I'm going for the IB Teacher Award too, so will need to mould these questions in my head!

Sunday Sam Snap Week 17

I think this was taken, if not posted, on Sunday(ish). Excitement this week includes the door bouncer, eating apples, pear and rusk, swimming at Keswick Spa and getting gunky eyes (perhaps related?).

Week 17. Boing.

Japanese visas have arrived, the sun has kept shining right up to today and it is now wet, grey and miserable. Here are some more photos from the decent camera, and I'll upload more from the iPod when I can wrestle it from Hesty (there is wifi in Mum and Dad's house):

We had the same picnic mat and windbreaker for holidays in the eighties.

This is a good bath toy - they stick using cohesive properties of water. Ooh.

So Anya, what do I do with my finger?

Yesterday we spent the day at Windermere, getting it all in before the tourists come flocking. Anya loved Beatrix Potter's World of Wizardry The World of Beatrix Potter. Apparently very popular in Japan, as evidenced by the Japanese subtitles on everything.

Tomorrow we're off dahn sahf for ten days, staying with Carl and Desy (I'll be off to summer school for the weekdays). Should be fun.

We watched the BBC series The Trip with Mum and Dad last week. A mock road-trip culinary tour of the Lake District, it is coming out as a movie in the States very soon.

Summer Holiday Snaps

The weather is far too nice at the moment to be bothered with blogging, so here is an album of holiday snaps. Anya and Samudra were a dream on the journey (although Anya did have a bit of a meltdown when she said goodbye to Eyang), and are now having fun in the Lakes with Nana, Grandad, Silly Uncle Andrew and Lindsay.

We've been to Keswick, had picnics, fed the ducks, been to the park, been to Trotters World of Animals, Crummock and Whinlatter Forest Park and played in the garden. Tomorrow we're off on the train to Edinburgh to visit the Japanese consulate and do some sightseeing.
