Sam was a guest speaker in Daddy's health class...

My Grade 9 students are currently working on a baby project, where they have to take home a doll in pairs for the week, and look after it. Throughout the project they will be researching elements of parenting, and it was perfect timing for them to meet Sam.

We showed off the belly button, which has almost healed, his baby fur, which might be dropping off soon, and talked about jaundice.

Once he decided it was time to go, the students were paired up, assigned a baby doll and took their first family photo!

So it took a week to get it taken and another week to get it uploaded (very busy lately), but here is the first photo of all of us together. We're looking properly scruffy, but who cares.

He didn't manage green for St Patrick's Day...

...but he did turn an impressive shade of yellow. Smaudra's back in hospital under the bililights for a few days.



The baby next to him was born at 34 weeks, just 1.7kg, and has been in for twelve days already - we count ourselves lucky. There's a bit of interesting physics going on with the blue lines on the video and photos, too.

Daddy was only allowed in briefly to see him, but Hesty has been at the hospital on a pretty regular schedule to nurse him and compare boobs with the other mums in the feeding area.

Thinking about having a baby in the house again

Baby Samudra is coming tomorrow. Here's one of my favourite photos of Anya at about 3 months. She spoiled us. She slept well, ate well, has hardly ever been sick. If Sam is half as good as she has been, we'll be happy!

Give an iPod to a toddler...

We bought an iPod Touch over Christmas, largely because I wanted one, but also because I'd read a lot about little kids being able to intuitively work these things out. Anya gets to play with it for a little while now and then (usually when we're stuck in traffic), and she loves the Cookie-Maker and Cupcake-Maker apps. She also loves to take photos and can easily jump between camera modes and the gallery, as well as flip the camera views around and switch apps. The prompts don't bother her at all - she's not really reading them, but she has worked out how to get most of what she want from most apps. You go girl!



As you can see, the quality of the images isn't all that great, but it is perfect for snapshot moments - and as a creative outlet for our nearly-four-year-old.
